SULLIVAN CHARITIES COMMITS $400,000

In remembrance of their beloved son Samuel "Sammy" Sullivan, Joe and Brenda Sullivan of Sammy Sullivan Charities in Lithia continue on with their efforts to celebrate their son's life through the aiding of those in need.

Holding two annual fundraisers, the couple decided to lend its support to A Kid's Place, a five-home shelter for abused and neglected children located on five acres at 1715 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. in Brandon that held its grand opening in early April. Having made a $400,000 committment to the nonprofit shelter in the form of Sammy Sullivan's House, a 12-bed, 3,200 sq. ft home, the organization has already amassed a whopping $225,000 over the past few years towards its construction costs.

"We were looking for a way to memorialize Sammy." stated Joe. Through the couple's search to find solace in their son's unexpected passing following an illness with flu-like symptoms, having taken place in September of 2005, they read that reaching out to others would, in time, give them the comfort for which they so desperately yearned.

"Of all the books we read dealing with grief, being charitable and doing good for others appeared to help."

"We are very hopeful that sooner or later, we will be able to see the benefits of creating Sammy's house," said Joe.
